New Moons mean new beginnings. It is our signal from the stars to ask for what we need.

Performing a ritual during the New Moon can bring you what you are looking for. But how do you do it?

Many of us have tried simply closing our eyes and asking for something… to no avail.

Using a methodology refined over time by practitioners will guide you onto a path that will empower you to create your own methods.

This article is going to teach you how to perform a successful New Moon ritual that will give you foundation. We’ll go over the method step by step, suggest some words to use, and give you the essential tools to make your next New Moon ceremony as magically powerful as possible.

Remember, one will only get out of magic what one puts into it; the law of cause and effect.

A New Beginning: New Moons and Fresh Starts

The New Moon is the celestial fresh start.

It signals a time to think of what is missing from our lives…

It is time to start anew. To imagine a life full of what is meant to be.

The New moon helps us direct our thoughts and focus on creating a new beginning. Regardless of whether the Moon metaphysically can affect us, the idea is to utilize the Moon as a symbolistic device.

Colombia professor of Psychology, Lisa Miller, has written full books citing peer-reviewed research on the incredible impacts of spirituality on psychology. She states in an NPR interview that we are 80% less likely to become addicted when we are cultivating spirituality.

However, it can be hard to actually utilize this information we have about celestial bodies. We may feel that the New Moon has power, but how do we use it to manifest desired changes in our lives?

Starting with a solid plan and a set of proper ritual tools helps immensely in creating the right headspace for a successful ceremony. This leads us to the first, and arguably the most important part of an operation, preparation.

Ceremonial Preparation

When you settle down to begin your ritual, make sure you’re relaxed.

The key to success is giving your full attention to what you desire. Let everything besides what you’re trying to invoke fall the wayside. This is best done by setting up a tranquil space.

How to prepare for a New Moon ritual:
  1. Find a spot where you won’t be disturbed, whether it be nature or your bedroom.
  2. Set down your altar with all of your ritual tools and sacraments including:
    a. A sacrament such as cacao, tea, or even a small piece of bread.
    b. Candles and ablutions such as incense and Agua de Florida.
    c. Beautiful things such as a statue of an exalted being, sacred geometry, or even a special piece of jewelry.
    d. Notebook and pen for recording your experiences.
  3.  Cleanse the space by smudging with your incense. A popular plant to smudge with is sage.
  4. Set your intention by writing down a very short and to-the-point desire. Choose something that has been on your mind as something you truly want.
    a. “My career is prosperous and brings me tranquility.”

Your stage is now set. Let’s Look into what sort of intentions align well with the energy of a New Moon.

The New Moon: Time for Manifestation

Spiritual Cultures like to assign the celestial bodies to certain anthropomorphic aspects.

The red planet, Mars, often corresponds with war and aggression in many traditions such as Daoism, Western Occultism, Eastern Yoga, and even Roman Paganism

What we take away from this is that there are consistent feelings humans get from observing certain planets. The point is that we can use these representations to balance corresponding aspects of our psyche.

The Moon is steeped in the obscure. The sight of it is mystifying and attractive. Though at times it assists our sight with its light, it is not always there for us. For what seems to be a plethora of reasons, culture has often attributed subconscious feelings to the Moon such as sexuality, dreams, and emotional strength. This insight lets us know what might be an effective intention on a New Moon.

Powerful intentions to set on a New Moon:
  1. To increase dream activity and aid in dream interpretation.
  2. To instill emotional temperance.
  3. To invoke renewed sexual health and vigor.
  4. To obtain secret information.
  5. To increase the presence of love in your life.

These associations were sourced from Angels and Archangels: A Magician’s Guide.

Feel free to break the rules. Just keep in mind that there is a reason all of these ancient and highly intelligent cultures align on this subject.

The last tip is that one is traditionally supposed to manifest on the New Moon, rather than banish. This is a general rule of thumb in modern spiritual circles, but relatively discretional.

Ways of phrasing manifestation include:
  1. I have a new job that I love.
  2. My emotions are peaceful and serve my higher purpose.
  3. I am ready for this new phase of my life.

The New Moon is a great time to bring new refreshing things into your life. The Moon wants to help you so give her your full heart and you will be rewarded.

The Ananta Rituals New Moon Ceremony: How to Manifest Your World

The most important thing you can do in any ritual
setting is focus.

Do your best to set aside stress and anxieties.

Choose an intention worthy of your time and energy. Focus everything on it with all you’ve got.

Now settle with all your tools in a tranquil place. Do some smudging to make sure the space is energetically clean.

It’s always best to preclude a larger ritual with a short meditation.

The following lunar meditation comes from Daoism. It’s centered around their goddess of Luna, Kuan Yin.

The Daoist Moon Meditation:
  1. Sit comfortably and let your thoughts slow. Breathe and relax.
  2. In your mind’s eye, see a dark expanse. Breathe into this vision four times.
  3. Now, watch the sea come into view. A glowing white Moon gleams over the horizon of the water. See it glow bright reflecting light onto the waves. Breathe and reflect.
  4. See the moon shrink into the size of a pin, but shine even brighter as it grows smaller.
  5. Then, watch that small point of light grow into a beautiful silvery Goddess, Kuan Yin. Silver robes and a halo adorn her as she floats just above the waves. Let your feelings flow. Allow whatever she brings to the table to be observed.
  6. Once she leaves your mind, which can take anywhere from 30 seconds to 10 minutes, end the meditation by knocking on something like the floor and saying, “I now declare this ritual duly closed.”
  7. Sense your imaginary body. Sense the new world you’ve created.

Now that you’re in the right headspace and fully relaxed, it is a good time to begin your New Moon ritual.

The Ananta Rituals New Moon Ritual:
  1. Prepare the cacao. Watch it melt down and become one with the water. Know that if you ask, the spirit of cacao will happily serve you.
  2. Raise the cup to your mouth and, before sipping, state your intention. Whisper it thoughtfully to the infusion and see it glow with the power of your wish coming to pass.
  3. See the moon in your mind’s eye. Inhale to make it glow, and on the exhale bring the light down into your drink. Do this at least four times. With each new breath, the cacao only grows brighter and brighter.
  4. Once the cacao is glowing bright, drink it. Let it fill all parts of your body with the energetic light of the New Moon. See it imbue your physical body and spread out into your aura. Feel what it’s like to have your wish come true as if it has already come to pass.
  5. After some time when the light begins to fade, come back to yourself. Sense your hands and feet. Hear the world around you.
  6. Promptly end the ritual with a solid, “I now declare this ritual duly closed.” Knock on something to create a noise and finalize your earthly presence.
  7. Write down your experiences as best you can. What the Moon or the cacao has told you is a good start.

You’ve now performed a thorough and powerful New Moon ritual. Go about your day as if nothing has happened.

The ancient Egyptians claimed that silence was the most powerful part of the process. The saying goes, “To know, to will, to dare, to be silent.” Some say talking about your rituals is sort of like allowing the energy to leak out of the wish. Do your best to keep what you’ve done to yourself and forget about it. It will be more likely to occur.

New Moons in Culture: How Different Traditions Utilize the Power of the Moon

There have been many traditions that have paved the way of manifestation for us. From the Far East to Africa, all the way to Latin America. It is important to try and understand the plethora of masters that span across the world. Their knowledge guides us and creates a foundation for our spiritual methodology.

The following takes us into some of the ideas people have had over time when it comes to working with the moon.

Daoism: Heqi during the New Moon

Ancient Daoists are known for their spiritual experimentation. They are especially famous for pursuing extremely long lives. However, they did so much more than this.
Daoists often work in the art of manifestation. There are a plethora of benevolent and beautiful techniques, but one, in particular, is done during the New Moon. It is called Heqi.

Heqi involves two people consummating under the New Moon while synchronizing their breath. While doing this, both people involved are supposed to keep focus on whatever agreed-upon intention was set.

Of course, make sure to perform this with someone you trust. This is an extremely potent practice, so we advise you not to take it too lightly if you try it out.

Veda: Honoring Your Ancestors

In the Vedic culture, many yogis perform moon rituals daily. But one ritual is specifically enhanced by the New Moon.

Performing the Tarpana only takes a couple of minutes. It is explained in detail here by a venerated yogi. Essentially, it is an ode to one’s ancestors. When we give our energy and blessings to our ancestors, their spirits are invigorated. If well honored, ancestors are known to grant us the desired changes in our lives. This is a beautiful way to utilize the New Moon for removing negative energy and dissolving challenges.

Wicca in the West: Moon Magic

Wiccans offer similar advice to what we offer in the above article. Generally, New Moons are for attracting or increasing something in our lives. They even suggest intentionally dreaming about what you wish for in life.

One distinction they make is that during Full Moons it is a good time to celebrate the positive things brought into our lives. They find it to be the most magically potent day of the month stating that any magical purposes can be saved for this day.

Ancient Egypt: The Feminine Essence of the Moon

Isis, the Egyptian goddess of the Moon, is one of the most famous and utilized characters in history. Even newer traditions like the Rosicrucians still use her to represent the correspondences of the Moon. She is the womb that is the universe before the ‘let there be light’ moment. It is the sacred space to be filled. A gentle and caring energy of creation and sustenance.

It was said in ancient Egypt that the god of the Sun, Ra, and Isis came into alignment during the New Moon. During this time, it was best to “plant new seeds of desire,” as Iseum Sanctuary puts it. They go on to purport that this is the time to break stagnation with refreshed energy.

The Moon in Ancient America: The Last Incans

The Q’eros are known to be the guardians of the Andes and the last of the Incan people. They often hold ceremonies of ‘giving and receiving’ in which they provide offerings to the gods. The success of these rituals depends on the ability of the officiant to invoke power. It is said they if offered with love and sincerity, the result will be of the same nature.

“Mama Killa,” or Mother Moon, is the sacred feminine force of the Andes in Incan culture. She corresponds to magic, mystery rites, and the emotions. Performing a ritual to Mama Killa grants regulation of the menstrual cycle, fertility, creativity, and self esteem. This rite can be done for men as they too require the balance of feminine power in their lives (Ceremony And Offering To Give Thanks To Mother Moon And Honor The Sacred Feminine “Mama Quilla,” n.d.).

The art of working with the Moon for manifestation is done across the planet in all sorts of beautiful ways. We can learn so much from these cultures if we honor them with openness and willingness to try.
